No Light Without Darkness

I run an ongoing project in which I work with large black-and-white halftones to create op art that emphasises the importance of perspective—knowing when to step back to see the bigger picture in life. In this series of eight acrylic portraits, I’ve sought to reimagine the Black Madonna in a contemporary context. While rooted in spiritual traditions, this Icon embodies universal themes of compassion, suffering, and hope, making her a bridge across cultures. I aimed to juxtapose traditional iconography with contemporary styles, materials, and contexts, creating a dialogue between past and present.
